Why international dialing codes exist (E.164)
International calling codes are governed by the ITU-T E.164 standard, which defines a globally consistent numbering plan for telephone networks. The calling code is the prefix that tells telecom systems which national numbering authority should handle a call or message. While it looks simple, it is the key that makes worldwide dialing interoperable across carriers, devices, and regions with very different local number formats.
In practice, E.164 codes are used far beyond voice calls. They show up in identity verification, SMS delivery, customer support tooling, and any product that needs to parse, validate, or store phone numbers accurately. Because some calling codes are shared by multiple countries or territories, it is important to keep both the dialing prefix and the ISO country code nearby. This page pairs the calling code +850 with every country that uses it, making it easier to design phone workflows that are correct, explainable, and ready for global scale.
